September 4th Results

September 5, 2008

I seem to have made a HUGE error while posting yesterday’s schedule.  It seems that I mistakenly posted the schedule for September 3rd, while there was only 5 American League Games and 3 National League Games on the schedule.  I’ve posted a revised schedule below.

First, the American League Games:

  1. Los Angeles Angels def. Detroit
  2. Toronto def. Minnesota
  3. Tampa Bay def. New York Yankees
  4. Kansas City def. Oakland (Game 1 of DH)
  5. Kansas City def. Oakland (Game 2 of DH)

Now, the National League Games:

  1. Cincinnati def. Pittsburgh
  2. Atlanta def. Washington
  3. San Diego def. Milwaukee

Instant Replay Use Last Night

September 4, 2008

Well, Instant Replay made its debut in the NY Yankees/Tampa Bay game last night.  In the 9th Inning, Alex Rodriguez hit a towering Home Run, that appeared to hook around the left-field foulpole and hit the bottom of the catwalk that runs from left to center field.

In my opinion, the home run looked fair, but I did not have a good camera angle on the play.  I give the umpires credit for getting into the tunnel, looking at the replays, and making the right call.  The process altogether took 2 minutes and 15 seconds, which was actually faster than the test run they did a week or so ago that lasted 7 1/2 minutes.

Anyway, I’m hoping that Instant Replay gets used for often in games, especially where the game matters for one team or another and the results depend on a playoff spot.  Good Job MLB (especially Bud Selig) for installing MLB at all ballparks!

Impersonate Joba Chamberlain in New Jersey, and receive free bagels

September 3, 2008

If you want free bagels, and live in the area of the New York/New Jersey border, simply head down the Turnpike pick a random Yankee (say, A-Rod or Joba Chamberlain), pick a set of highly impressionable teenage girls and then use your impersonation skills to make the girls commit a naughty act they normally wouldn’t. Like give you free bagels.

From The Coaster:

An Asbury Park man has been cited by police for impersonating Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain at several places along the shore.Ryan Ward, 29, was reported to Belmar Police Aug. 1 after telling workers at Belmar Bagels that he was the famed pitcher and accepting free food from girls working at the shop.

According to Captain Thomas Palmisano, Ward showed the girls a picture from a newspaper of Chamberlain and said he was the pitcher.

“The girls asked for his autograph and gave him free food,” Palmisano said.

Ward, pretending he was Chamberlain, told the girls not to tell anybody he was in town.

Who is that?

September 3, 2008

Well, Who’s this female athlete throwing out the first pitch and then hanging out with Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain before yesterday’s Marlins-Diamondbacks game in Arizona?

Here’s some hints …

  • She’s a 2008 Olympian
  • She’s won a Gold Medal in two straight Olympics
  • She plays in a HEAVILY watched Olympic event
  • She’s married to an MLB Player

So she should be easy to recognize, right?

Let’s try another picture:

It’s 2008 Women’s Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist Misty-May Treanor.

You didn’t recognize her either, did you?

I had no idea who it was until I read the article. Beach Volleyball does a great job of promoting their female athletes. Well, at least a certain part of their female athletes.

By the way … I bet that’s the only time a ceremonial first pitch thrower has ever thrown to her husband (the Marlins’ cather, Matt Treanor) … while wearing an opponent’s jersey.

I’d be willing to bet it was one of the few times a player from the visiting team ever caught the ceremonial first pitch either. Get Paul Lukas at UniWatch on the job.

And incidentally, May-Treanor got a louder ovation than McCain at the game. Even in McCain’s home state of Arizona.
